So picture taking isn’t going as well as I thought.  It always seems like my camera is downstairs and I’m upstairs.  Or I have my camera but my knitted stuff is scattered all around the house.  I have to clean my room tonight so maybe that will help.   I finished the Yarn Harlot’s Unoriginal Hat.  I held two strands of black acrylic together.  Good way to get rid of the acrylic.  I worked it on size 10.5 needles.  I’ll definitely go up a size or two when I do it again.  Very tight on my widdle head.  I’ve also decided to make Karen a Clapotis out of some acrylic too.  She loves Caron Simply Soft.  And I’m not going to spend a lot on yarn if what she really likes is the 1.99 a skein kind.  I found someone on Ravelry who has done it in the acrylic so it should work out.  I’ve started a Peekaboo mitten for Karen too for Christmas.  I bought the yarn from Iron Horse Farms at the Sherborn Fiber Fest.  It’s so pretty.  Pinks and Purples and a sparkly thread running through it.  I just realized that I’m making a lot for Karen for Christmas.  Oh, well.  I’m going to haul ass on the mitten, and get one done, then maybe do the clapotis and then do the other mitten.  Then see which one Aunten likes.  I’ll make her either one.  Lisa and Abby are hopefully getting mittens.  If I slack off then Abby is getting a pretty skein of yarn.

The second sock is almost done.  I’ll probably have it done by Thursday night.  Once the sock is done, it’s time to set course for the Peekaboo Mittens.  I have to swatch the loads of Red Heart that was gifted to me with the size 8 addi turbos.  That way I can use magic loop.  I also have to swatch Karen’s socks.  I still haven’t decided on a pattern for them.  It would be best if I do an all-over rib, as her feet are bigger than mine.  I’m planning on working mitten, sock, mitten, sock.  That way I won’t get bored or frustrated.

I’m really excited about these mittens.  I hope that the pattern isn’t that hard.  I know acrylic isn’t really the best for mittens, but it’s free.  And I’m slowly working my family out of a financial hole, so free works for me.  I wonder what would happen if I stopped working on the sock and casted on the mittens tonight?  Would the knitting gods be angered?  Or would they applaud me for forgoing knitting something for myself and instead knit for others?

  Hmmmm.  Things to think about.

The socks didn’t have such a good weekend.  I JUST started the heel last night.  But I have full confidence that I will finish the heel and a bit of the leg tonight.  I was looking for quick christmas knits as socks will probably be not happening.  I found these.  (Thank you Ravelry) They are perfect.  I have a bunch of left over yarn to use up.  But to treat myself for not buying new yarn, I’m going to try wooden dpns for this.  Looks like a quick trip to BSK is in order.

Special people will still get socks of course.  Lisa, Karen, Aunten, Abby and Debbie to name a few.  But the socks probably won’t happen till after Christmas.  Mittens will happen first.

I’m having some car trouble.  It’s making this horrible grinding noise when at under 1000 rpms, but not all the time.  I’m hoping it’s not the transmission.  Cause mama can’t afford a new tranny. I’m dropping it off at lunch today and catching rides till it gets fixed.  Which has to be by Thursday as Nana has appointment. But onto yarn.  I think I mentioned my sister going to San Diego this past week, and how she was going to get me some yarn.  Well, I got a text from her in the Chicago airport (10 hour layover – poor baby) and she said, “I bought you 50 dollars worth of yarn and you better like it”.  Whoa.  I did not expect that much yarn.  In fact, I figured when my sister saw how much yarn cost (good yarn, not retail crap) she was going to run away, and I was going to get an angry phone call.  But nope, I got a boat load of yarn.  I don’t think I’ll see her till this weekend, but I’ll post the pictures when I get the yarn. I did the heel on my sock last night.  I followed the directions and even though the double wrapped short rows were weird, I finally think I figured them out.  I do have two holes on either side, and after looking at the directions again, they suggested picking up a stitch and then decreasing on the next row.  I totally missed that, I’ll have to darn it closed, which isn’t a problem, just a pain.  I also totally spaced on using the coordinating nylon thread.  Which sucks, but it’s already 25% nylon so I’m not that stressed.

I took a couple of pictures last night just before I did the heel.  The colorway is beautiful.

Took a trip to Iron Horse Farm this weekend.  I met one of the owners, Debbie.  She was so nice, and so helpful.  I told her that I was interested in learning the drop spindle.  She hooked me up with a kit that included the drop spindle, some roving and a dvd.  The dvd was nice, better than a pamphlet.  My first yarn was thick and thin but the second one was more uniform.  But when I went to ply it, it lost some of it’s twist so it turned out thick and thin again.  I’ll have to research it a bit more to see why this is happening.  Now I have about 3 yards of weird yarn and no idea what to do with it.  I think I’ll make a cosy for something.  Maybe for my sunglasses.  (Lost the favorite sunglasses so had to buy new ones.  I’m not a big fan of them.  Heard a rumor that Target has the best in fashionable cheap sunglasses – maybe worth a look)

Below is a picture of the first spinning attempt.  I hope this picture works.

1650 people were invited to Ravelry over the weekend.  Which now makes me #7983 on the list.  I figure about a week and a half at this rate.  Which is awesome.  I can’t wait to get on there and search for patterns and yarn and now roving.   I finally finished the toe to my first toe up sock.  Then I was debating on whether to use dpns or two circs.  I have been fighting with dpns to get rid of the ladder, so finally I decided I am just going to use them.  I think I have the anti ladder thing down, although I’ll keep at it tonight.  I was up late all weekend trying to figure it out.  Again, all I can think about is these socks.  I can’t wait to get home and work on them.  I’m using JaWool from Lang Yarn.  Some Swedish company.  The lady at Black Sheep Knitting in Needham sold it to me.  It’s 75% wool, 25% nylon, AND it came with a tiny spool of reinforcing thread for the toe and heel.  It was pricey but worth it as it is lovely yarn.  I used to make fun of the knitters that made socks – like why on earth would people want to knit socks when they can get them damn cheap.  Then one day I woke up and it hit me – BECAUSE WE CAN.  That’s why, and as soon as I finished my first hand knit sock I was hooked.  It’s like crack.  All I can think about is making the sock, how are the colors going to work up, which heel should I use.  I think people around me are getting a little annoyed, but I don’t care.  All I want to think about is the socks. I really wish I knew how to upload pictures to this thing.  I really have no idea.  Plus I just made a Flickr account in anticipation of Raverly, but it took forever for my stuff to load, plus I had no idea how to get the codes.  So I’m totally confused.  I can’t even figure out how to put in links.  I’m really going to sit down at lunch and figure this out.  I’ll make you mine, WordPress, just you wait.  You will bend and submit to me.  And I will post pictures of socks and yarn and you will like it.

I win stupid wordpress, although Flickr, you still elude me.  Here is a picture of the “free range” chickens at Iron Horse farm.  They totally freaked me out, and it was the first time I saw a chicken in real life that wasn’t on a plate.

Are socks supposed to feel like they are exfoliating your feet?  Cause my feet feel like I’m wearing those old Adidas sandals with the nubbies on the sole.  I’m hoping it’s because I used cheapy yarn (Lion Brand Magic Stripes).  I’ll post pictures later tonight.  I did cuff down using the basic sock pattern Lion Brand provided.  First time I used one of their patterns and it was correct, which was nice.  I didn’t do a long sock, more of an anklet.  Next pair will be longer.  But before I cast on I’m wondering if I should get a smaller set of dpns.  I did the LB’s on 3’s and I’m wondering if that is why they feel weird.

I’m waiting for my invite to Ravelry.  Judging by the rate they are inviting people my invite should come before Thanksgiving.  I don’t really get it – but I think to get it I’m going to have to join and look around.  I mean I’ve done the screen shot tour and am doing the video tour at lunch, but I really just want to use it myself and poke around.  I’m planning on uploading all my pics to a flicker account tonight.  I have really come to hate photobucket.  Not for any particular reason.  Just the way they’ve set up the site.
